Prerequisite Skills

Before taking this tutorial, you should:

• be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse.

Although there are some basic features common to other operating systems, this online tutorial discusses and assumes you are working at a computer that has the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. All the PCs in Goshen's computer labs run Windows XP.

This Prerequisites section contains the fundamentals of using Microsoft Windows. It is important that you thoroughly understand these.

Note: Throughout these tutorials, key combinations are designated thus: <Ctrl+S>. This is shorthand for "press and hold the Ctrl key; then press the S key and release both."

Menu selections are designated thus: File > Save. This means "click the File option on the menu bar. Then select Save from the menu that drops down."
