I appreciate your warning about "thirsting" for God. We are encouraged to love God with all of our being, which includes our emotions and intellect. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with thirsting for God emotionally or intellectually. What could be wrong is the motive or goal. If our goal is for guarantees of emotional highs, or that all will go well for us, then as you say this is wrong. The goal is to thirst for truth which is obtained through righteousness.

Thank-you for these profound reflections! Ironically, not knowing the theme for the week, I was thirsty and debating what beverage to bring to this meditation time - hot/cold, carbonated/non, flavored/plain. I chose ice water. This silly process took on a whole new meaning as I read your words regarding thirst, particularly the caution! "...seeking certainty of belief"- riveting thought for me. Most of all thank-you for the words of reassurance! Kathy
