April 10 - Life in Christ

Contributed by Bethany Bauman, a first-year elementary education major from Goshen, Ind. on Saturday April 10

Scripture

1 Corinthians 15:19-26

If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Devotion

What is the significance of Christ rising from the dead? How can we relate it to our lives today? Christ rose from the dead so we could have hope in death. Through his resurrection we can see the life we’ll have with God when our earthly bodies die. We have this image that death is the end of our lives, when actually it is the beginning that our lives on earth are leading towards. We can’t understand this now, because it is something we will only experience when our lives on earth are done. Christ’s resurrection is a way to show each of us the life we will be entering when we die.

So are you living life for the purpose of what awaits you when your earthly body dies? Or are you living according to this world? Christ destroyed death so that we could live. Live your life in response to this so that God can give to you the real life He has prepared.
