Scripture
Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love
endures forever!
Let Israel say, "His steadfast love endures forever."
Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through
them and give thanks to the LORD.
This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.
I thank you that you have answered me and have become my
salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief
cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be
glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you,
give us success!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless
you from the house of the LORD.
The LORD is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal
procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I
will extol you.
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love
endures forever.

Devotion
How long is forever anyway? Is it the length of my life, and how
long will that be? Is it as long as the life of the college’s
endowment fund, which funds GC programs into perpetuity? Is it
as long as Kulp Hall, our oldest residence hall, will stand? Is there
anything concrete to tie that concept of ‘forever’ to?
"Good," "forever," "love," "thanks," "God." Those words in these
verses are words to ponder; words that fill one’s heart with joy;
words that carry us past every obstacle; words that put wind in our
sails; words that make life worth living.
As the years roll by and things like eyesight, hair and youth
gradually fade, they are ever more fully replaced by gifts that God
has given which never fade. "Love," "good," "forever." Those words
always bring us hope and are gifts from God.
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it"
(Psalm 118:24). We have this day; it is a gift from God. Will we fill it
with love, with good and with thanks? Or will we fill it with worry,
with fear, with mindless activity?
"You are my God and I will give you thanks. You are my God and I
will exalt you" (Psalm 118:28).
