Here is an astonishing thing!

Jeremiah 29:11-14 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord , "and will bring you back from captivity."

In the cartoon story lines, there are action figures who go about serving humankind - some superhuman beings even alter the paths of those they are serving with their heroic rescues. And of course, what's a good cartoon without those people who are always needing to be rescued?

Jesus could have been a cartoon superhero. After all, he saved all of us in need of rescue from our sins, following his father's plan and fulfilling his divine purpose, bringing the world back from captivity.

We may not possess supernatural powers, but we, too, are here for a purpose. I usually read this scripture to say that there is a plan for me and the Lord will seek me out and "inform" me of that plan and then, through osmosis somehow, I will just take on that plan as if it were mine.

But this morning I read that scripture differently. God may have plans for us, wishing to wants to prosper us - not to hurt us, but rather to give us hope and a future. He has done that already, when He sent Jesus to die on the cross for us. Now it is our responsibility to complete the prophecy: "'Then YOU will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. YOU will seek me and find me when YOU seek me with all YOUR heart. I will be found by YOU,' declares the Lord, 'and will bring you back from captivity.'"

It truly about us becoming the "action-takers" of today. Jesus did His part by hanging on the cross for us. But today, we must take action and seek out God and all that He has for us with our hearts, minds, and souls, finding, each of us, our individual callings. It's about truly sharing with Him our heart's desire for our lives and listening to His heart's desire for us. It is about moving onto our knees and before God's face as we pray and listen.

It is then that the Lord and all that is prepared for us - spiritually, personally and professionally - will be brought back from the captivity of our own constraints.
