Dec. 24 - Excuse me?

Contributed by Rachel Naftali, sophomore business information systems major from West Java, Indonesia on Tuesday December 24

Scripture

Psalm 148 - Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his host!
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created.
He established them forever and ever; he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.
Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command!
Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!
Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!
Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and women alike, old and young together!
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his faithful, for the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!

Devotion

"I'm sorry God, I can't go to church this Sunday, I'm too tired. I got back home too late Saturday night."

"I'm not going to pray or read any devotional tonight because I'm just so tired. It's 3 a.m. and I just got done with my homework and I have to get up early tomorrow. I'm sure God understands how busy I am."

"Oops... I woke up too late; I don't have time to start my day with prayer. I'll do it later tonight. I'm sure that's fine with Him"

Those are some classic excuses we use to compromise with God about our spiritual time with Him. We could do that over and over again and never realize how that hurts His feelings. When life just seems so painless and we know exactly what we are doing, then it may seem that we don't need His guidance in every single day of our lives.

Sometimes it takes failures or tragedy to remind us what really matters in life. Sometime it takes failures to snap us back to the reality that we need God. When all the things we do just don't feel right, that is when we realize that we really do need God. He is the most essential matter in our life.

So, have you spent time today praising God for all you have in your life and for people He has given to you to share it with? That's what really matters.
