Dec. 10 - Everlasting love

Contributed by Dorothy Muiruri on Tuesday December 10

Scripture

Psalm 126 - When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them."

The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced. Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy. Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.

Devotion

I reflect back on the times that I have been far from God, times that I have strayed or disobeyed or chosen to go my own way. It is during those times that I have felt abandoned and alone.

Have I been abandoned? Has God turned his back on me and decided that he will not care any more about me?

No.

His promise is to never leave nor forsake me and it is during those times that he is patient waiting for me to turn back to him so that he can fill my mouth with laughter, my heart with joy. The Lord is patiently waiting to restore my fortune, to give me the oil of gladness for the spirit of heaviness.

I am reminded of the love of God during this time of Advent and Christmas, when the Son of God took the form of man so that he could lead me back to the Father. This is a time that bears witness to the true nature of God: loving, caring and faithful.

During this time the Lord is calling us from afar, and having loved us with an everlasting kind of love he is extending loving kindness to us (Jer.31:3). His faithfulness to us shall endure forever and with arms outstretched he is calling us to him so that he can fill our hearts with gladness during this time of Christmas and thereafter.
