Scripture
Romans 1:1-7 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of his name, including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, To all God's
beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Devotion
In this crazy time of the semester and year, the blessing of God's grace and peace in this passage becomes most meaningful. In this world we are called to fill our lives with things and events so that we are "involved." How does that bring God's grace and peace?
Being involved is a fine thing - I am involved myself - but we need to ask ourselves if being as busy as we are will bring God's peace and grace to others and to ourselves. I look at my life and sometimes wonder if it carries God's peace and grace. Is that paper that is due tomorrow bringing God's grace? Well, maybe not right now, but I remind myself that it will. I remember that God has a perfect plan, and in that plan, I have the job, family, and life that is suited just for me. To achieve God's grace and peace I need to listen to him and his plan by praying and reading the promises of the gospels. I also need to finish this paper because that will help me pass the course, that will help me get my teaching degree, that will help me proclaim God's word and, hopefully, show my future students God's grace and peace by living out God's plan for me. Until that day, I look to see that God's grace comes through my mentors and friends. Although they have as many questions and concerns as I do, I see grace in them and I receive God's grace and peace through them, even if they don't know it they are proclaiming God's peace and grace to me. Let us proclaim the gospel to others and ready ourselves for Jesus' coming at Christmas, by making his peace and grace shine through us in everything that we do. God bless!
