The Record editor is responsible for the overall concept, management and production of the campus newspaper for one semester. The editor selects staff members, delegates responsibilities to them and supervises their work. The editor also works with the faculty adviser to discuss and evaluate editorial content and budget concerns. The editor is responsible for the overall content of The Record. He or she receives a stipend from the Communication Department.

You can fill in your personal information and prepare typewritten responses to the questions on paper, or copy and paste the form to submit electronically.

Please return your completed application to Duane Stoltzfus, Record adviser, by Friday, March 6.

1. Why would you like to be editor of The Record?

2. Describe your plans for shaping the staff, content and design of the paper?

3. Which three college courses have best prepared you for the position of Record editor?

4. What life experiences would be useful to you in serving as editor?

5. In what areas do you think you will be most challenged as Record editor?

6. How will you decide, on a weekly basis, what is news? What steps would you take as editor to ensure that news coverage is comprehensive and does not favor certain groups, departments and programs on campus?

7. What have you learned from past experiences on staff that would shape your own editorship?

8. With a campus circulation of about 900 and a national circulation of about 100, The Record is one of the college's most visible co-curricular activities, and comes under close scrutiny as GC's "first rough draft of history." As editor, how will you ensure that this forum for campus communication and representation is used appropriately?
