No one is working alone in the laboratory with hazardous or dangerous chemicals.
Goggles/safety glasses are worn by individual using hazardous or dangerous chemicals.
Clothing is appropriate for hazardous operations (long hair is confined, no shorts or open-toed shoes).
Flammable materials are stored properly (in approved container, in flammable cabinet, not on bench top or floor).
Refrigerators are properly labeled with contents inventoried on door. No food/beverages stored in refrigerator.
Secondary containers/bottles are properly labeled with the contents, hazard, date transferred.
Desktops are neat and clean. Lab is free from scraps of paper, dirty equipment, paint and chemical spills.
Waste containers are properly labeled.
Waste material is not stored or accumulated on floors, in corners or under shelves and tables.
Fume hoods have proper direction of airflow. Electronic safety monitor read in normal (green) range.
Emergency phone numbers are posted in the lab.
First aid supplies are stocked in kit. Accident Report Forms are in kit. Exposure Control Kit is stocked.
Fire extinguishers have been checked by Physical Plant within one month.
Safety showers are functioning properly and documented.
Eyewash stations are functioning properly and documented.
Apparatus/glassware does not project beyond the front of shelf limits or bench top.
Gas cylinders are tightly clamped in place. Cylinders not in use are capped.
Apparatus properly secured.
