Super Tuesday - FAQs

What should I expect to happen during my 45-minute session?

You will be paired with a human resource professional from the Michiana area. During the session, the HR professional will simulate an actual interview, allowing you to practice answering interview questions. Afterwards, the interviewer will spend several minutes reviewing your résumé and offering you suggestions. You'll leave with two written feedback forms - one for your interview and one for your résumé.

What if I'm going directly to graduate school after GC?

We're confident you will still find Super Tuesday to be helpful. If you prefer, you may submit basic information from one of the programs you are applying to, in place of a job description. Your interview would then be simulated as a graduate school admission interview, instead of a job interview.

Do I have to dress up?

Yes, professional attire is a requirement for Super Tuesday. Dressing as you would for an actual interview helps to simulate a "real" interview. If you're not sure what is appropriate to wear, browse through these web pages:
However, we do realize that you're a college student. If you don't already own a suit, and you don't have the money to purchase one now, wear another nice outfit that you already have in your wardrobe. Consider budgeting for a professional suit in the future.

Why do I have to submit a job description?

There are two reasons why a job description is required. First, it allows your interviewer to better simulate a "real" interview. He or she is able to ask more specific questions, and you have the opportunity to practice tailoring your answers to the qualifications necessary for the position.

In addition, finding a job description allows you to practice job search techniques, which will be helpful to you in the future when you're looking for an internship, job or service position.

Read through our suggestions for finding job descriptions if you're not sure where to look or if you have questions about what the job description should include.

What if I don't know what kind of job I want?

Please don't let that stop you from signing up! Even if you're not sure what you want to do after you graduate, it's likely there are a few fields which interest you. Find and submit a job description from one of those fields.

Many of the questions your interviewer will ask are fairly universal, and will provide you with experience to build upon even if you ultimately choose to enter a completely different field.

When are the sessions? What if I can't attend any of them?

Each student will sign up for one 45-minute session. Super Tuesday is divided into four different time slots, with sessions starting at 2pm, 2:45pm, 3:30pm, and 4:15pm. After submitting your résumé and job description, please contact Career Services to sign up for one time slot.

If you are not available during any of these time slots, you are welcome to contact Career Services to schedule a practice interview with Anita Yoder for a day and time that better coordinate with your schedule.

Should I wait until I'm a senior to sign up for Super Tuesday?

No. During Super Tuesday, you will practice skills that are helpful for all students. Résumés and interviewing skills are often needed when applying for internships (which we recommend doing!) and sometimes they are even required for part-time or summer jobs.

I participated in Super Tuesday last semester. Can I sign up again?

Sure! The more you practice, the more confidence you will have during a "real" interview.

What can I do to prepare for my Super Tuesday session?

The best way to prepare for an interview is to practice answering interview questions and to know what to expect during an interview. Browse the web pages listed below for sample interview questions and other advice:
