Interview with Ivannia

How did you find your internship?

I found this internship through the business department here at GC. Our accounting professor contacted various firms and we were able to interview with them during the fall semester of my senior year.

What were your major responsibilities?

At the beginning I was helping out a lot with payroll. Then as tax season started I worked on business tax returns, and then on personal tax returns. When that was over, I started working on personal property taxes.

What’s something important thing you learned?

I learned that even though the college does a great job teaching us all the concepts and preparing us for our career, we don’t really know much about our career until we actually work and obtain hands-on experience. It is definitely the best way to learn. Everything you learn in school finally makes sense when you do an internship.

What do you wish someone had told you before you started your internship?

Nothing specific, I felt well prepared. However I wish someone would have told me to change my sleeping habits beforehand so that I was used to the working hours by the time I started my internship, instead of being used to the college sleeping schedule.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

I appreciate the flexibility the firm offered me to work with my school schedule and how friendly everyone is in the office. I also really enjoyed all the snacks and all the meals that were provided to us.
