Goshen Boys & Girls Club Internship Program

Paid internship & employment

About the internship

The Boys & Girls Club offers an initial paid internship followed by part-time employment. The program is intended for students who commit to working at the Club for 2-3 years and is especially appropriate for sophomores and juniors.

Students of all majors are encouraged to apply. Internships are tailored to build on students' interests and address academic requirements. Potential activities include:
  • Leading sports programming
  • Teaching art, choir, or dance classes
  • Developing special programs (i.e., drug prevention, leadership, or field trips)

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Good academic standing (GPA of 2.5 or above)
  • Strong desire to work with diverse youth and a non-profit agency
  • Internships must be 120 total hours (3 credit hours). The ideal schedule is two hours per day during mid-late afternoon when most Club members are in attendance.
  • An interest to continue employment after completion of the internship. The Boys & Girls Club is looking for longer term commitments since staff turnover is a difficult emotional issue for many Club children.

Wages:

The Boys & Girls Club offers a competitive starting wage for interns at $9 per hour. Annual wage increases are offered to students who continue employment after their internship at $10 per hour the second year and $11 per hour the third year.

Additional intern benefits:

  • Opportunity to change a child's life
  • Exposure to the non-profit world
  • Learn youth development under guidance of long-term professionals in the field
  • Employment contract
  • Opportunity to develop professional relationships and mentors, making valuable contacts that could lead to permanent employment
  • Learn strategies for event, program and activity planning/assessment
  • Improve your communication skills
  • Strengthen your resume with proven experience

Forms and next steps:

Students who would like to apply for the program should complete an Interest Form (click here to download form) and submit it to the Career Services office. See the left sidebar for deadlines.

Students are also strongly encouraged to talk with their academic advisors about the process of earning academic credit for the internship.
