Hobbies & Interests
Professionally, I have long been interested in the effect of government policy on the quality of people’s lives. My primary area of teaching, for over 30 years, has been Social Welfare Policy, which has pushed me to remain current on politics and economics. It is an ever-changing landscape and one which I have tried to help students see as an area for social work advocacy.
I have many personal interests as well: travel, music, grandchildren, and family history. I inherited a photo album from my grandmother, with photos dating back to the early 1900s. Realizing that there were many individuals in the photos whose identities I did not know, I have been on a quest to put names with faces. With the help of aunts, uncles, and other relatives from my parents’ generation, I have had considerable success. The quest continues…..
After teaching at Goshen College for 37 years, I am retiring at the end of this semester. I will continue as an adjunct professor in the accelerated Social Work program, and plan to maintain my interest in social policy.
