Choir concerts and interesting speakers!

Last week, the GC choirs spent even more time rehearsing than normal, because we had our second concert of the year on Saturday! It was an all-Brahms concert, meaning German German German! Honestly, some of the songs we had to learn were tough, and the pronunciation definitely needed practice! Vance George, a Goshen alum and pretty widely recognized conductor, came to Goshen this week to finish up practices with us and direct us for the concert. It was hard to tell during the concert how well we did, but there were so many positive comments afterward. It was very gratifying!

We're beginning to work on songs for the Festival of Carols at the end of November now... everyone I've talked to says this concert is a HUGE deal, and it's even being broadcast on local tv! So that should be pretty exciting, although stressful while studying for finals at the same time.

Besides that large chunk of time last week, it was also Domestic Violence Awareness Week, with lots of events on campus. Also, E.O. Wilson, a world- renowned biologist, etc., came to speak last Tuesday! Sauder concert hall was packed for his lecture, and he also gave a special Q&A session with students in the afternoon. It was awesome just knowing someone of his caliber could come here, to Goshen!

Coming up tomorrow, writer Courtney Martin is speaking on her book Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters, which I haven't read all of, but I've heard very good things about. I love it when we can have speakers come during the week, and get a little break from homeworking.

Until next time

:]

p.s. the pictures are from last weekend when my sister visited!
