Club Information

The Goshen College Astronomy Club is open to all. This includes students, faculty, and the general public. We usually meet in room 001 of the Science Hall to discuss various issues of astronomy such as telescope construction, star maps, and astrophysics. Of course we also meet to stargaze and have fun! For now, the astronomy club is being reorganized. We welcome any and all to contact Dr. John Ross Buschert, the club's faculty advisor, to find out about future events. Also, be sure to check this page regularly for updates and meeting times.

Our Equipment

14" Celestron Telescope Goshen College owns a 14" Celestron Telescope that is housed in an observatory building. This telescope is available for use by club members and students. While there is no set observing schedule,the building is open to the public when it is being used by club members. ST-6 CCD Camera While the telescope is often used for visual observing, we have the capability for electronic imaging. The observatory is equiped with new viewing and imaging software. Goshen College owns an ST-6 CCD camera which we use to try to punch through the local light pollution! See our Pictures page to view some of the images we have taken. /\ top

Lenses and Filters We also have several filters and lenses to choose from. Many of the filters are required when taking pictures in order to filter out a lot of the smog and air pollution. We also use the lenses to help magnify and focus whatever star cluster or nebula we happen to be looking at. /\ top
