Experiential Learning at Greencroft Rinker Family Wellness Center

Exercise science majors at Goshen College have the unique opportunity to work with elders and staff in the Rinker Family Wellness Center at Greencroft.  After students demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skill and professional behavior, they may sign up for a practicum experience at the Rinker Family Wellness Center. Students increase their knowledge and professional personal training skills in this facility while assisting people with workouts.  An ACSM personal trainer who is responsible for developing programs for clients supervises students.

In one of the photos, Joel Yoder holds a flexibility poster he designed and created this past fall.  After teaching clients a variety of stretches, he photographed them and created this poster.  This poster now hangs in the Wellness Center and shows patrons how to safely complete stretching exercises in a series.

We are thankful for the opportunities Greencroft  provides for our students. While our students practice some skills on campus in the Recreation Fitness Center, it is valuable for them to gain a wide variety of  experiences in the local community.
